How Much Does a Deep Clean Cost?

A deep clean takes far longer than a regular clean, so it is usually quoted as a fixed price for the property. These are the ranges published UK guides show and the reasons a quote may sit above or below them.

Illustration of a cleaner scrubbing the tiled walls of a bathroom during a deep clean

A deep clean goes beyond the routine dusting and vacuuming of a regular visit. It typically includes the areas that build up dirt slowly – limescale on taps and shower screens, grease on kitchen cupboards and extractor hoods, skirting boards, door frames, behind and under furniture – and it often needs a team of two working for several hours.

Because the time involved varies so much with the condition of the property, cleaning companies usually ask for photos or a description and give a fixed price. Some quote by the hour instead, often at a higher hourly rate than regular cleaning to reflect the extra equipment and products used.

What affects the cost

Property size
The number of rooms, bathrooms and the floor area set the baseline for how many hours are needed.
Property condition
Heavy grease, limescale, mould or a home that hasn't been cleaned for months can add hours.
Level of cleaning required
Inside cupboards, behind appliances, walls and light fittings may or may not be included – check the list.
Furniture and contents
A furnished, occupied home takes longer to deep clean than an empty one.
Access
Upper-floor flats without a lift, limited parking or restricted hours can affect the price.
Extras
Ovens, carpets, upholstery and windows are frequently priced as separate items.

What a deep clean often includes

  • Descaling taps, showers, screens and tiles
  • Degreasing kitchen surfaces, cupboard fronts and extractor hoods
  • Cleaning skirting boards, door frames, door handles and other touch points
  • Cleaning behind and under movable furniture
  • Wiping inside empty cupboards and drawers if requested
  • Thorough vacuuming and floor washing, including edges

What can push the price up

  • Heavy limescale, grease or mould
  • Lots of furniture and belongings to work around
  • Same-day or weekend bookings
  • Adding oven, carpet or upholstery cleaning

What can bring it down

  • Decluttering surfaces before the team arrives
  • Booking regular cleaning afterwards to maintain the standard
  • Combining extras in one visit rather than separate call-outs
  • Giving clear photos so the quote is accurate

Why two quotes can look so different

  • One quote is a fixed price and another is an estimate of hours
  • Inside cupboards, fridges or ovens are included in one quote but not another
  • Different team sizes or numbers of hours have been allowed
  • Products, equipment and VAT are treated differently

Information to give when you ask for a quote

  • Property type, number of bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Photos of the kitchen and bathrooms
  • Whether the property will be empty or furnished
  • Any problem areas such as limescale, mould or grease
  • Extras you'd like priced: oven, carpets, upholstery, windows
  • Your preferred date and any access or parking issues

Common questions about prices

How long does a deep clean take?

It depends on the size and condition of the property. A small flat might take a few hours for one or two cleaners; a larger family house can take a team most of a day. Ask each company how many cleaners and hours they've allowed.

Is a deep clean worth it before starting regular cleaning?

Often, yes. Many households book a deep clean first to bring the home up to a standard that shorter regular visits can then maintain.

Does a deep clean include the oven?

Not always. Many companies price oven cleaning separately because it uses different products and takes extra time. Check whether it's in the quote.

What's the difference between a deep clean and a spring clean?

The terms are often used for the same thing: an occasional, thorough clean of the whole home. What matters is the task list in the quote, not the name.
